Film Submission Guidelines

Welcome to the 2024 Very Short Festival film submission portal – review the following guidelines before you proceed.

  • No entry fees are required. 
  • Only Australian Residents may enter (includes residents overseas).
  • Films must be between 2-5 minutes in duration.
  • Films can be of any genre.
  • Entry categories: Open (19 years and over) or Junior (18 years and under).
  • One film entry per person (or group) will be accepted.
  • Films must include the 2024 Official Competition signature, ‘spark’. 
  • Films must be submitted in English or with English subtitles.
  • Films must be original and produced after the announcement of the signature.
  • Films must not have been publicly screened, broadcast, or featured online.
  • You give us the right to screen your film in front of a live audience and broadcast online.
  • Recommended film specs: Submit your film in format H264, either as an .mp4 or .mov (QT); 1280×720; 25fps; Stereo AAC. Max file size 2GB.

If your film is a finalist, be prepared to submit visuals of your film, and production stills made during your filming.

Film submission deadline: 11:59pm, Sunday 7 April 2024.

Very Short Film Festival 2024 Submission Form

To submit your film, you’ll need:

  1. Film synopsis and an explanation of how you featured the 2024 signature, ‘spark’
  2. Short bio on your filmmaking journey 
  3. Your profile picture
  4. Link to your film submission on Dropbox
