VSFF 2026 Expands to a Three-Day Hobart Premiere Weekend

The Very Short Film Festival is returning to Hobart this May — and for the first time, the premiere is expanding into a full weekend of film, conversation and connection.

From 22–24 May 2026, VSFF will take over the State Cinema for three days of short films, filmmaker Q&As and special events, bringing together audiences, creatives and industry to celebrate bold Australian storytelling.

What has traditionally been a one-night premiere is now a three-day experience — creating more space for filmmakers to share their work, for audiences to engage with stories, and for the community to come together.

Across the weekend, you can expect a curated program of short films from across Australia, alongside opportunities to hear directly from the filmmakers behind them.

Whether you’re local to Hobart or travelling in, the VSFF Premiere Weekend is a chance to experience new voices, fresh perspectives and stories that pack a punch — all under five minutes.
