We embrace all genres, applauding bold stories that challenge, enlighten or stir emotions. Stories that serve as vessels for driving social change. Remember even the smallest film can make a big impact!
VSFF’s Official Competition is open to all Australians with no entry fees. There are two categories for entry, either Open for 19 years or over; or the School Challenge for 18 year olds and under.
Films must fit within 2 to 5 minutes and include the annual signature. The signature is a creative touch that every filmmaker participating in the festival will incorporate into their short films. While the films can tell any story, the signature serves as a unifying thread, ensuring that everyone has the same timeframe to work within. Whether it’s a visual element, a clever metaphor, or a captivating line of dialogue. The signature is not meant to be the film concept, idea or theme. It is purely an identifier that your film has been created for VSFF and will be shown to the world for the very first time.
